Three ways to easily add your brand and voice to a website template
When it comes to creating and developing a new website from square one, it can be a little bit of an intimidating process.
Thankfully, with Squarespace templates on the scene from multiple creators (like myself), it doesn’t have to be that way. Templates can provide graphics, elements, and more to help you get started. However, with every template out there, you want to put your own spin on it to fully customize and cater it to your individual brand/business. Here are some quick and easy ways to make a templated design your own creation.
1. Update the colors and/or fonts
A simple, but HUGE difference! If you update the colors and/or fonts in your template it’s going to give it a whole new look! Just as you would put a fresh coat of paint on a room in your home, it can change the entire look. You can easily update these settings within the Site Style menu under your Design settings.
Don’t have colors for your brand yet? That’s okay! Here are some ideas to help:

I am OBSESSED with this website for helping with color palettes. It is such a great tool!
If you’re using a 7.1 template you can search their palettes, or upload a palette from a photo.

2. Use your own graphic elements
Each of my templates come with Canva templates for you to very simply update colors in or add in new elements! If the ones that come with the template don’t work with your brand - change them! You can upload your own elements or search through the thousands of free elements Canva has to offer!
3. Update content to fit your business
One question I get asked all the time is if you can change the names of the pages, add different pages or different sections on a template. The answer is a big YES! The template is created for you to be able to easily update to make perfect for what your business needs! If there’s a testimonial section but you really need to show logos of who you’ve worked with - you can do that! Take the base of the template and tweak it until it’s perfect for YOU! That’s the beauty of a template, it can provide you with a starting point and really help you get ideas and work flowing.
If you are stuck on a website design or just want some help with the whole process, a template is the best route for you!
While templates come with their own set of colors, elements, and images, you can fully change things up and make them completely your own! See more examples of how some of my customers have customized their templates here! Get inspired!
